Scanning Photos to DVD

scan photos               dvd case

Scanning your family photos can preserve you memories for the future in digital form that can be printed or viewed on your T.V.These images can be shared with your friends and family.

Your black and white or color photos are scanned at high resolution of 300 DPI or 600 dpi are transferred to a DVD for long life and viewing on your computer or compatible DVD player. Whether your family photos are in boxes, albums, in sleeves or just in piles, they can now be scanned onto a DVD. Once on disk, the images can be printed at your favorite processing company or viewed. When I receive your photographs, they are lightly cleaned with low pressure air to remove loose dust and dirt.

After scanning, I use photo editing software to do any final cropping and some minor colour and exposure correction. Some faded pictures can be brought to life during this process. However, if the photo is underexposed (dark) or over exposed (very light)  or out of focus, the scanning correction will not produce an image suitable for printing.

The scanned photos are saved in JPG format.

If your photos are under 3"x5" size, then they will be scanned at 600 dpi that will produce prints up to 8"x10" with some cropping.

Your photos over 3"x5" and up to 8"x10" sizes will be scanned the original size of you photo and will produce prints up to 8"x10" with some cropping.

Photos over 8"x10" will be copied.

Different size scans, resolution and TIFF files are also available, please e-mail for details and prices.

All scans are saved on  a DVD-R disk. The disk will be placed in a 14mm clear DVD case, similar to movie cases and not a slimline jewel case, with a cover insert with the title chosen by you.

Please allow up to 2 weeks to complete your small order, larger orders will take longer. Allow 3 to 4 weeks for personal cheques to clear.

If you are using these photos for the slideshow, please attach the slideshow order form with this order.

All photos must be removed from frames.

Photo Preparation
1. Either mail or if you want to bring in your order, please phone me first. If you have a large quantity of photos or albums, it would be cost effective to bring in your order. For large orders and orders with albums, e-mail me the following and I will give you a cost for mailing the order back to you, using Canada Post:
                                          - your Postal Code
                                          -  Dimensions of box in inches or centimeters ( length x width x height)
                                          -  Weight of box in pounds or kilograms
If you have not included enough to cover the mailing, I will e-mail, you requesting the difference, before starting your order.

2. Please e-mail or phone me the tracking number, when you shipped the order and who you shipped with. I will track your order and e-mail you when it arrives. You can also track your order using the tracking number. If you use Canada Post, I pick up the mail daily. If your order is shipped via courier, please make sure they deliver to Beaverlodge Alberta.

3.  If you want your photos scanned as specific groups, place all the photos in an envelope with the group name noted on it.  You can also place numbers on the back of your photos, in the order of you want them scanned, with post-it notes. The scanned images will be named as the group name plus 01 etc and will be saved to the DVD with the file folder named as the group.
For example:
                    - group named "25th Anniversary" - file folder  "25th  Anniversary"  - scanned image  "25th Anniversary-01

Note: All photos must be removed from their frames before bringing or sending them for scanning.

4. If your photos are in albums, use post-it-notes to indicate which photos you want scanned. As noted above, there is
an extra charge for photos in albums. I will remove the pages and replace them after scanning. However, if the photos are in albums  that the pages are hard to remove, bring in the album and I will determine if scans can be done. If your photos are loose in a box, I will scan them in groups of 50 calling the group name "Group 01" etc. If you require an estimate for a box full of photos, please bring in the box.

5. If you require some groups of photos scanned at 300 DPI and some at 600 DPI , please place your photos in an envelope with "Photos Scan at 600 DPI". The default scan is 300 DPI.

6. Use the photo scanning order form for placing your order.

7. Your will be phoned or e-mailed when your order is received and when ready for pickup or when mailed.

8. All mail orders will be shipped via Canada Post Expresspost with tracking, insurance coverage to $100.00 and a signature required upon delivery. There is an additional charge for more insurance.
